Hall Hire

One of Sydney's best kept secrets can be found on the foreshores of Balmain with uninterrupted water views it is perfectly suited for groups of up to eighty people.

The 131 year old boatshed is the home of Balmain Rowing Club, located on the waters edge next to Elkington Park at the end off White Street Balmain. Its proximity to public transport and the CBD makes it the perfect venue for any event requiring a comfortable and cost effective space overlooking the Harbour.

Accessibility: Hall is located at street level with no steps. While there are no disabled toilet facilities currently available within the club house, there is a public bathroom 75m away in the park with these facilities.
Catering: The club is not tied to any particular catering company, however if you are looking for a catering company a few recommendations are listed on the right.
Public Transport: Buses are available from the city, Glebe and Canterbury and stop a 5 minute walk from the club.

Pricing

All prices include GST and a Supporter membership required for hiring the hall. Also included, the club provide tables, chairs and a full kitchen and bar at no extra cost, and we also have a barbecue for a small additional fee. For more details, see the hall hirer's contract provided below.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many guests am I allowed to have?

Balmain Rowing Club has a maximum capacity of 80 persons. There should be sufficient space in the hall for all 80 people in most configurations. See our contract and floor plan above for more details.

Does Balmain Rowing Club cater?

We do not have any catering services, we only hire the hall-space itself.

When can I gain access for setting up?

The key will be given to you at 10am on the day of your hire in return for a fully refundable $500 cash deposit.

When am I required to return the Key?

You are required to return the key by 9.30am the next morning, unless prior arrangements have been made.

Am I required to clean the hall?

You are required to clean the hall and leave it as you found it before you return the key, if you are paying the standard hirer’s fee. A vacuum cleaner and some cleaning material is provided for this. If you fail to do so, it will result in a charge being levied against the key deposit.

Am I required to remove my rubbish?

Foodstuffs, waste paper, glass, cans etc are all to be removed from the premises and its precinct. Any items left for BRC to dispose of will be charged at commercial disposable collection rates.

Does BRC provide plates and glasses?

We do not provide any plates or glasses. The hirer is required to provide any plates, glassware and cutlery required. All the Items provided by BRC are listed on the Hall Hirer’s contract.

Is BRC a smoking Venue?

Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the premises of the Rowing Club.

Does BRC provide a PA system

There is no PA system in the building. You may bring your own equipment into the hall, but please also see the question below regarding noise.

Does the Hall have disabled access?

Yes, a path leads directly to the door of the club from the street, however we do not have disabled toilet facilities.

What types of parking are available around the club?

Only street parking is available. BRC does not have any off-street parking.

Can I decorate the walls and the structure of the hall?

You are able to put up any non-permanent /non-marking decorations inside the hall, provided that all fixings tape, blu-tak, etc are removed at the end of the function. Please be particularly careful of the honour boards on the walls covered by the curtains when putting up decorations.

How much noise am I allowed to make?

The BRC hall is located in a local neighborhood area, so we can not accept hirers who are going to disturb the local neighborhood population. Noise and music must be kept to background levels outside the hall. Hirers are required to be considerate toward neighbors when returning to their cars or accessing taxi cabs. Acoustic screens on the south side windows must be left in position.
