LEARN TO ROW
January 25, 2016
Taree Camp 10-15 January
Over a dozen BRC members travelled to Taree to train with rowers from Central Tablelands, Newcastle Uni, Tasmania and Western Australia in preparation for the Annual Taree Summer Regatta.
Despite some challenging weather everyone managed to get almost (and in some cases over) 100km of training completed during the week, including video sessions and racing drills.
Thanks to BRC Life member Ron Beattie, and the other volunteers (especially the mothers of the rowers from Central Tablelands) who helped to feed, coach, and generally look after all the rowers for the week.
Taree Summer Regatta 15-17 January
All the training really paid off with Emily Principe and Lily Taranto winning their first double scull (and Lily’s first win of her rowing career) in the Women’s C grade double. BRC did particularly well in the WC 2x with both crews (including Emma Forsdick and Renate Ijpma) winning their divisions. Congratulations also to the WD4x for their win, a first for that crew at Taree! There was also some exciting composite racing in the mixed quads with both BRC and Central Tablelands mixing together to form some fun ‘scratch’ crews. Congratulations also to Kevin Wall (WARC) who raced well in composite boats with BRC before winning his Para 1x, and to Central Tablelands who managed to earn two wins in the MD 1x and MC 1x respectively!
