Sydney Girls High School Rowing Regatta - Saturday 11 November

It was the first time ever that Sydney Secondary College Balmain Campus (SSCBC) had been represented at a high school regatta. and our junior girls, sporting their new school zooties ,stepped up to mark the occasion.

Apart from Sydney Girls High, which has a long rowing association, SSCBC was the ONLY public school competing at the regatta.
The girls were up against Loretos, PLC Pymble, Croydon, MLC, Tara, St Catherine's, all with well-established rowing programs and state-of-the art boats.

Year 10 students, Zoe Reid and Miku Johnson won their doubles race.
Lucy Austen-Paine in year 8 who has been rowing less than 12 months achieved 3rd place in a year 9 single scull.
Lucy and Miku also competed in an open doubles race against a more senior opposition and came 4th.
Maxine Franz finished 3rd in her open single event.
Sophie Armitage also competed for the first time in the year 8 single scull for BRC,.
Sophie was well in the race leading at the first 500 then her steering came unstuck, she finished a very competitive 4th.
One junior to watch in coming regattas.

The school rowing program, conducted every Tuesday afternoon at BRC, is now in it’s second year.  Juliette Annand, Mal Campbell and Geoff Noonan have worked tirelessly with the support of college staff, the P&C and Balmain Rowing Club to ensure its success and clearly their efforts are paying off.

A day to be celebrated just to see the colours of SSCBC on the water with their students doing the school proud.

"Juliette, Mal and I are so proud of the girls, how they conduct themselves and what they are achieving on the water” said Geoff.
