Balmain and Leichhardt Rowing Club's Outing

AMONG THE OARSMEN

There was a large number of members of the Balmain and Leichhardt rowing clubs at their outing last weekend.  A swimming relay race was won rather easily by the following Balmain team; J McQueen, J Goodsir and L S Allen, the last two mentioned being on leave from Liverpool army camp.

The football match saw the Leichhardts again filling second position, the scores being 11 points to the 3 in favour of Balmain.  At half-time both teams had scored 3 points each.  About ten minutes before time Balmain added a goal, making their score 6 points.  Just afterwards Leichhardt were attacking strongly, and looked like scoring at any time when D Chidgey (Balmain) intercepted a pass and obtained a try from halfway, the Leichhardts appealing to the referee for off side.  It was very evident that the members of Leichhardt club were unacquainted with the off side rule.  However, they know a bit more about it now.  The Balmainites are highly delighted at their double win and it is said intend to have another try for the “Leichhardt” Shield.  It will be remembered that they were badly beaten in the last races.
