Joe Andreoli

Joe Andreoli has been associated with the Balmain Rowing Club, and gave his time to coaching members of the Balmain Rowing Club and caring for Club property. He attended the Club House almost daily in the Club’s interest, he has coached many of its successful crews. He also coached his son-in-law Cecil Pearce, the Australian and State amateur champion sculler, for many of his championship races.  A former professional sculler, he started his rowing career with the old East Sydney Rowing club, and during his lifetime took a keen interest in rowing and sculling, professional boxing, and sailing. He was in England with the Australian champion swimmer, Dick Cavill, when George Towns, ex-world champion sculler, arrived to compete for the championship, and he spent some time with Towns assisting with his preparation.Returning to Australia, he competed in many professional sculling events, both on the Parramatta and the Northern Rivers, and many of the old scullers and old-time professional boxers owe much to him for his advice and assistance.
