The Spring Regatta, held at SIRC on 15 October, was especially exciting this year as Balmain was represented by 3 girls, Frances Smith, Zoe Reid and Maxine Franz who recently participated in the School Rowing Program held at BRC in conjunction with Sydney Secondary College. Our own Lilli Taranto also competed and was there providing valuable tips and racing advice.
The girls performed brilliantly coming second, third and fifth in their Novice Single Scull (WN 1x). Francis and Maxine then went on to win a trophy mug each for first place in the Women’s Novice Double Scull (WN 2x) final. Lilli and Zoe came in with a fabulous time in the Women’s D-grade Double Scull (WD 2x) coming third and sixth overall out of 19 entrants competing in the 3 heats of this open age division. Not bad for their second time in a boat together.
The girls were amazing and kept their cool under the pressure of racing for the first time. Congratulations to them all!
