John Booth war hero Blamain Rowing Club

Sydney James Porter

Sydney James Porter was one of the earliest members of the Balmian Rowing Club, which was founded in 1882. He won numerous races in the black and yellow hoops, and was always noted for his keen enthusiasm in everything he undertook. After filling various offices he was elected captain in 1890, and held that office for several years, and was re elected to that position in July 1906. Mr Porter has also represented his club as a delegate to the NSW Rowing Association. He is a firm believer in what be calls the old order of training crews - long rows, hard work, and plenty of it.
